Overnight 30-Minute Traffic Stoppages on I-495 North and South at Georgetown Pike Next Week
Stoppages needed for utility relocation work as part of the 495 NEXT project
FAIRFAX, VA – Periodic stoppages of up to 30 minutes are scheduled to occur on I-495 North and South at Georgetown Pike in McLean during overnight hours next Wednesday through Saturday (August 9-12) for utility relocation work. Stoppages will occur between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m. Following each stoppage, one lane will reopen to clear traffic in each direction before the next stoppage is implemented.
In the event of inclement weather, the stoppages and associated work will be postponed to the following night. Travelers should anticipate delays and consider taking an alternate route.
This work is part of the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project to extend the existing 495 Express Lanes from the Dulles Corridor interchange to the George Washington Memorial Parkway near the American Legion Bridge. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution when traveling through the 495 NEXT work zone.
Visit 495NEXT.org for the latest construction and lane closure information.
