VDOT News - Hampton Roads

ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY – A portion of Route 692 (Uzzell Church Road) in Isle of Wight County is scheduled to close starting as early as July 24 to replace the bridge over Champion Swamp. The project will include demolition of the existing bridge and construction of a two-lane, single-span, multi-beam girder bridge. The work is estimated to be completed in summer 2024.

Route 692 (Uzzell Church Road) will be closed to through traffic between Route 652 (Bob White Road) and Route 654 (Carroll Bridge Road), with signed detours in place. Access to all existing private property and businesses along Route 692 will be maintained at all times.

Detours will direct motorists:

Traveling from Route 654 (Carroll Bridge Road) to Route 652 (Bob White Road) to turn:

• Left onto Route 620 (Scotts Factory Road)
• Left onto Route 258 (Courthouse Highway)
• Left onto Route 652 (Bob White Road)

From Route 652 (Bob White Road) to Route 654 (Carroll Bridge Road), to turn:

• Right onto Route 258 (Courthouse Highway)
• Right onto Rout 620 (Scotts Factory Road)
• Right onto Route 654 (Carroll Bridge Road)

VDOT awarded the $1.94 million project contract to Bryant Structures, Inc. in May 2023. The bridge replacement project is anticipated to be complete in summer 2024. Construction work and schedules are dependent upon weather conditions and subject to change.
